Getting the first idea for starting a business by slicing bread and flipping donuts at their grandparents’ bakery, Patrick and Jamie McNaughton now design and manufacture their own products to make customers’ lives easier, better, safer, and more fun. Some products from the brother-sister duo include soda bottle birdfeeders, kitchen gadgets, Soapy Soles, and Buckle Guard — the original seat belt buckle cover that helps keep children safely in their seat belts.
Working together as a team, Patrick has always been the inventor type by taking toys and turning them into something new and different. “I always had the coolest Barbie house because he would add things to it for me,” Jamie said of her brother. “Between the two of us, I think the future was in the making at a pretty young age.”
Every product manufactured by McNaughton Inc. has a purpose. Before they design a new product, they start by asking themselves how it’ll help make people’s lives easier and safer. Their Pasta Strain and Serve product is a perfect example, and Jamie likes to call these types of products “forehead slappers.” They manufacture products that consumers need, but they don’t know they need them until they see the item.
McNaughton Inc. products are perfect for flea markets because they’re unique, affordable, and will make vendors stand out from their competitors. Most of the time, consumers come to flea markets to walk around and let products find them. Once customers see the uniqueness of the product and the amazing price, they won’t be able to say no. It’s easy to get started selling their products with a low minimum order of $50.
Jamie and Pat are constantly working on new product designs, and with what technology can do today, the duo have the opportunity to test out new things and see how they can work from the customer’s point of view. Currently, they are both working on expanding their automotive and child safety product lines, which help transport children and adults with special needs. These additional products will help transport them easier while also making sure the users are comfortable.
