The Troy Flea, operated by Buy Local event planners Tight Knit, is launching the TK Winter Market on Saturdays in December, beginning on December 1, showcasing apparel, housewares, décor, jewelry and collectible items. Nestled inside the Troy Atrium and coinciding with the local famers market, the Winter Market is the latest in a series of Tight Knit growth spurts. The group had its first annual holiday market in 2008, featuring more than 50 vendors, which later grew to the weekly summer market held at Monument Square. This year, the region began an initiative called “Market Saturdays,” to encourage residents of the Capital Region, the Hudson Valley, the Berkshires and southern Vermont to buy locally. Several vendors, including Theresa and Jim’s Handcrafted Soaps and Design It Together! have generated enough business at the events to fund a brick and mortar shop, as well. “Every time we hear about another current or former Tight Knit vendor opening up a shop in Troy, fireworks go off in our hearts,” says market manager Dana DiGiuseppe. “This is just what we hoped for when we started four years ago.”
The December Winter Markets are already filled to the brim, but organizers are looking to continue the event in February 2013. The Winter Markets take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Troy Atrium, on the corner of Fulton and 3rd Street, Troy, NY 12180. Photos of the market, information about Tight Knit and details on how to become a vendor are available on the Tight Knit website, www.tightknit.org or by emailing email@example.com.
