The Elephant’s Trunk Flea Market in New Milford, CT, provided the perfect autumnal setting Sunday, October 21, for a visit from HGTV’s Flea Market Flip, with mild temperatures, bright blue skies and glorious reds, oranges and yellows in the background. More than 350 vendors and 2,500 shoppers were on hand for the event. Each team of two Flea Market Flip shoppers was given $500 to search the market for unique decorative objects they would take home and repurpose. Cameras caught every detail as the teams employed both creative thinking and bargaining skills. The contestants will “flip” their revamped merchandise, hopefully for a profit, as they compete for the $5,000 prize.
Both teams appeared satisfied with their flea market finds, which included a white table and brown wooden box. Corinne and Paul, vendors who have been selling at the Elephant’s Trunk for nearly four years, operate the booth where one of the teams made their purchase. “The last time the show filmed here, a team bought our boxes as well,” Corinne shared. The married couple each has a full time job as well as selling part time at the market. “We sell a lot of wooden, tin and pottery items. The money is good and I like the treasure hunt and seeing the merchandise sell,” she added. “The challenge is getting up at 2:30 a.m. and packing and unloading our things. It’s a lot of work. But it’s a lot of fun, too, especially on days like this.”
News anchor and correspondent, Lara Spencer, is the host of Flea Market Flip and the show presently airs on Fridays at 9 p.m. Elephant’s Trunk, New England’s largest flea market, opens to customers at 7 a.m. and to dealers at 5 a.m.
