Beginning its 43rd season on August 24th, the Maryland Renaissance Festival is a fun tradition for the entire family. Running Saturdays and Sundays, including Labor Day, until October 20th, this faire presents nine weekends of thrills, feasting, handmade crafts and entertainment. Visitors are welcome to wear costumes suitable for a family-friendly atmosphere.
The 27 acre festival comes to life each autumn with more than 200 professional performers on ten stages, a 3,000 seat arena presenting armored jousting on steeds and streets filled with village characters. The storyline for this year, which is different every year, takes place in 1529 Revel Grove, Oxfordshire, England.
The Maryland Renaissance Festival’s 2019 entertainment schedule will be posted in early August, but you can get a sense of which performers are usually at the show by looking at their 2018 schedule at rennfest.com/our-entertainment-schedule/. There are also special events taking place during the season, and the weekend of August 24th-31st will be their special “Children’s Weekend.” Children 15 and under, with an accompanying adult ticket purchase, are admitted free for the weekend.
While enjoying the many different performances, visitors have the option of shopping down multiple aisles of different handmade treasures including metal work, wood sculpture, jewelry, furniture, clothing, footwear, ceramics, stained glass and so much more. Guests can also stop for a bite to eat from vendors selling hot apple dumplings, berry muffins, funnel fries, chicken or shrimp dippers, fish n’ chips and many more yummy delectibles.
