Calling all history lovers! Mesa Market Place Swap Meet is remembering Frank Luke, Jr. with a FREE half-day community event that will include military equipment and museum displays. Frank Luke Jr. was one of the nine children raised in Phoenix at the turn of the 20th century when the town had a population of only 1,000 residents who also won a Medal of Honor in World War I.

This family-friendly event will take place from 9am to noon on Saturday, September 22nd. You can also enjoy a breakfast special while looking at all of the militaria with a downloadable coupon from their website, www.mesamarket.com. The breakfast special comes with 2 eggs, toast, and hash browns for only $1.50!

“Lt. Frank Luke, Jr. was the most daring aviator and greatest fighter pilot of the entire war. No other ace, even the dreaded Baron von Richthofen, had ever come close to that,” Capt. Eddie Rickenbaker, fellow WWI pilot and Medal of Honor recipient, said in a press release.

The military equipment displays will include pieces from the Arizona Historical Transport Assn., vehicles from the Arizona Military Vehicles Collectors Club, and pieces from Dr. Baron Smith. The museum displays will include pieces from the first Frank Luke Jr. Memorial Museum, the Luke Air Force Base, Commemorative from the Air Force, and pieces from the Arizona Military Museum.

From a Vietnam War helicopter to WWI gear that Frank Luke Jr. would have used, this Mesa Market event will have it all. Children and adults are invited to write notes and color pictures to go into ‘Packages From Home’ care packages that will be sent to Armed Forces personnel serving in the Middle East. There will also be a special remembrance ceremony at 11am where the Motorcycle Color Guard of America will post our national colors.

Come and see the interesting side of history at this Mesa Market Place Swap Meet event, where there will be free parking, admission, and entertainment. Additional display and militaria are welcomed! If you would like to participate in this event, please contact Joan Wells at 602-703-7682.
