Pacific Vineland Swap: Open Air Success
When was the last time you went to a drive-in theater during the day? Well, for a lot of shoppers and vendors in City of Industry, California, the answer is, “today.” According to Melissa Murphy of the Pacific Vineland Swap Meet, the City of Industry location first opened up their lot back in 1985. When the company owners, Pacific Theatres, realized they could use the giant property during the day as well as at night for the drive-in, the idea for the swap was born, and they haven’t looked back. Open 7 days/ week, the market opens at 6:00am for vendors, 7:00 am for shoppers, wrapping up at 3:00pm, and weekends they run from 5am until 4pm.
Offering plentiful space, the swap meet can accommodate up to 600 vendors, all in the fresh outdoor air. Vendors may reserve a spot up to a month in advance, and daily, weekly and monthly rentals are available. “We have a lot of vendors who have been with us for a long time, and shoppers like to come back again and again and see the same faces,” Murphy adds. “We have about 30,000 shoppers visit the market every week, so there’s plenty of foot traffic,” she continues.
With a live DJ every weekend, the swap meet boasts an outdoor grill and serves beer on the weekends, too. The market celebrates all the big holidays during the year, offering raffles and prize give-aways to draw in bumper crowds of shoppers.
Vendors may call ahead to reserve a spot, or stop in at the office between 6am – 9:30am to rent a daily space. For more information on the market, please visit their web sites, www.pacifictheatresswapmeets.com or www.vinelandswapmeet.com
