Matt McCord, founder of Closeout Pet, has been in the pet supply business since 1986. His company was originally founded as a retail chain. In addition to operating retail stores, McCord has recently branched out into the closeout business. “Pet closeout items were always difficult to find,” explains McCord. Having been in the business for a long time, McCord utilized his connections to set up a wholesale operation to offer pet supply closeouts to other vendors. “We put the dots together to help serve sellers like ourselves,” says McCord.
Now, Closeout Pet allows vendors of all kinds to take advantage of “the lowest prices in the country,” according to McCord. Dog and cat food are their largest categories, however Closeout Pet’s 88,000 square foot warehouse also contains an ever-changing mix of all products for cats, dogs, small mammals, reptiles, and birds. McCord explains that Closeout Pet is a great option for flea marketers because “You can place an order right when you arrive at the market on your phone and have it delivered before you leave.”
Pet products are always best sellers at flea markets due to the family-friendly atmosphere, especially for outdoor markets that welcome pets. “Dog and cat food would be the best options for flea market vendors,” says McCord. “Dog toys and treats would do well too. I just picked up some pet strollers. Those are also great flea market items.” Closeout Pet sources their products from overstock and clearance deals, so their selection is always a little different. “We buy such a variety of items, our inventory is constantly changing,” says McCord. A constantly changing inventory allows vendors to easily switch up their offerings and have something new for their customers.
