Via Trading Introduces Flea Market Vendor Training

For flea market vendors, finding profitable merchandise to resell is only half the battle. Setting up an attractive display, capturing customer information, marketing to customers when not selling and using efficient business processes are equally important to creating a solid foundation for a long-lasting business.

In February 2014, wholesale liquidator Via Trading Corp. launched a series of free Flea Market Vendor Training Workshops to fill the gap between flea market vendors’ desire to build profitable businesses and a lack of educational materials about how to do so. While there are plenty of how-to articles and hints and tips content out there, there are very few hands-on training services to help flea market vendors learn and implement techniques quickly and effectively.

The first Flea Market Vendor Training workshops were held at Via Trading’s Los Angeles facility and welcomed upwards of 20 flea market and swap meet vendors, both brand new to the business as well as those with years of experience.

The class offers a comprehensive curriculum and covers topics that include:

Market research and preparation: How to make sure you are setting yourself up for success from the beginning with market and demographic knowledge, an evaluation of the available booth spaces and how to cater to the specific buyers of any given market.

Business process improvement: Maximizing your sales by leveraging technology and using appropriate up-selling and cross-selling techniques to leave no money on the table.

Marketing: Understanding the importance of marketing to your customer base without relying on foot traffic from flea market management and using social media, printed collateral and booth branding to make a huge impact.

Effective merchandising: Making sure your booth communicates your brand, speaks to your target customer and is designed and organized to encourage sales.

Customer service and salesmanship: Best practices for customer engagement, retention and satisfaction that will lead to customer loyalty and repeat business.

Product sourcing: Discover where and how to find wholesale suppliers for your particular product lines, how to make the most of liquidation merchandise purchases and how to expand product offerings to widen your target audience

Classes are offered in English and Spanish and all participants walk away with a booklet of information including Via Trading’s “101 Hints & Tips for Flea Market Success,” a directory of wholesale search engines to help them find reliable suppliers and ample resources that can be immediately applied to their business model as they watch their profits increase.

Via Trading is continuing to offer flea market training workshops at their Los Angeles location and are partnering with flea markets nationwide to bring the classes directly to vendors who might benefit from the education. The company also plans to expand their class offering to a webinar format to allow flea market vendors to benefit from the education from the comfort of their home.
