Ohio’s Hartville Marketplace & Flea MarketHartville Marketplace & Flea Market, which opened in 1939 on just two acres as a livestock auction, is coming upon its 75-year anniversary. The market, in Hartville, OH, has evolved over the years and the livestock option disappeared leaving a more traditional flea market. Eleven years ago, the operation moved to its present location on Edison Street NW and built a climate-controlled indoor marketplace of 100,000 square feet. “Indoors we have more than 110 shops each with something different to offer, primarily new merchandise,” states Trista Todd, director of marketing.

“We differentiated ourselves from other flea markets by adding the indoor marketplace, and it helps us to be open year round. When people come to do their treasure hunting in the summer, they get something different and special. Not only do we have the indoor shops but we have a food court for breakfast and lunch, and ice cream shop and coffee shops.”

The outdoor area features 20 acres of blacktop and accommodates 1,200 vendors. “We have two covered pavilions outside which vendors can utilize in the winter, and some vendors come out even when it is snowing,” Todd continues.

Hartville Flea, Hartville Kitchen & Hartville Hardware

In addition, the 40-acre property on which the market sits is shared with two other family owned businesses. The Hartville Kitchen offers home style cooking, a bakery and a candy shop, as well as Hartville Collectibles, which carries brand name items. The other store, at 307,000 square feet, is Hartville Hardware, the largest independently owned hardware store in the U.S. “The campus is a big draw,” Todd remarks. “We have branded the campus as a destination for the whole day, it is so much fun.”

Also of interest, Hartville Marketplace & Flea Market hosts events throughout the year. The next function is its Fall Arts and Crafts Festival, which will be held October 5th. “Items must be handmade, and the crafters bring out some beautiful pieces We host them in the front portion of our parking lot. We usually get more than 100 vendors, so it is a great time for shoppers to stock up on decorations,” Todd shares.

App helps shoppers find cars, vendors find spaces

To make it easy for shoppers and vendors alike to learn more, Hartville Flea has launched a mobile app. For shoppers, it includes a car finder and a lot finder to search by product category. For vendors, the app has a lot pricing feature that will show them which lots are reserved and which are available, and pricing for that day. In addition, the market is revamping its website.

Hartville Flea is open Mondays and Thursdays through Saturdays, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is centrally located between two major cities, being 20 minutes south of Akron and 20 minutes north of Canton. It also offers several restroom facilities for men and women, staff that operate as security as needed, and indoor and outdoor security cameras.

Vendor pricing information

Outdoor spaces rent for $12 to $18 per space, per day on the blacktop and $16 to $24 per space, per day in the pavilions. They are rented a first-come first-served basis, unless sellers book on a monthly basis. Indoor spaces average $310 per month for a 10-foot by 10-foot space, and vendors must commit to a minimum of one month and be open all the days and hours the market is open.

On Sat. Oct. 12, I saw 2 matching lamps @ $20 ea. at the outdoor flea market. After I went home I decided I could use them. Went back Sat. Oct. 19 but the vender wasn’t there. Would love to purchase them. Lamps had clear bases (maybe acrylic or lucite.). The woman had one wrist in a support or brace.
Anyone with info as how I can find out if she will be back to flea market & when, will be appreciated.
