Tupelo Flea Market Celebrates 25th Year
The Tupelo Flea Market is celebrating 25 years in business. The Tupelo Flea is the South’s largest indoor/outdoor flea market, with 500,000 square feet of air conditioned/heated space. The year round market is open the second weekend of every month, and two weekends in November.
Celia Fleishhacker, a Tupelo resident who has been a vendor at the flea market since its inception, spoke with DJournal.com about the event and its history. “I can’t believe it’s been this long. I remember setting up at the flea market before it even moved to the Tupelo Furniture Market. In the ’70s, it was at the fairgrounds. Then it moved to the old Ramada and then to the Trace Park. It has been wonderful here at the furniture market.”
More than 30,000 people attend the market on a given weekend, coming from a 100-mile area from Tupelo and surrounding cities. Parking is free, and admission is $1 for anyone over the age of six.
Over 500 vendors set up shop and sell a wide variety of items, including clothing, pets and furniture. Indoor vendor spaces are 10-feet by 10-feet and 9-feet by 11-feet, and outside spaces are 9-feet by 18-feet. Rental fees range from $75 to $85 per space. RV hookup is available.
The market will be open August 9 through 11. Hours are Fridays, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturdays, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sundays, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
