As the company grew, it introduced larger rug sizes and expanded its inventory. It now continues to do manufacturing, but has also begun to import and distribute woven area rugs. “What makes our rugs so appealing is the apparent value,” points out general manager Dean Baker. “We always have a great assortment of rugs. It’s important to remember that not everyone has the same taste in rugs, so the fact that we have such a great mix makes is pleasing to our buyers. Not only do they appreciate our variety, but their customers do as well.”

When perusing the inventory at the Mayberry Rug Company, vendors can expect the unexpected. The company’s selection is so varied that, according to Baker, “you never know what you might find.” Mayberry actively seeks out new promotional items that create a real sense of excitement for buyers. “We keep our warehouse organized so that when our customers come in, they feel that we are respectful of their time,” Baker comments. “We realize that customers need to find and purchase merchandise as efficiently as possible, so we make sure that our products are accessible so as to help our buyers choose what will best fit their markets.”

Mayberry always has seasonal products, and, at this time of year, special rugs that are themed for fall and Christmas are available. Even so, the firm’s best sellers are small area rugs measuring five feet by eight feet or eight feet by 10 feet. The wholesale price range varies greatly because there are so many different products and possibilities. “Our pricing is very competitive on any given product,” Baker says. “Retail pricing can vary as well, but we do have rugs that could retail for as little as $5.” The minimum order is $500 for opening orders and, after that, there is no minimum to be met. A customer appreciation sale takes place every summer, with discounts on one-of-a-kind products. Right now, however, the MEGA line of rugs is on promotion. “We’ve had it for a few months and it’s moving pretty well,” Baker points out.

“The greatest strength of our company is the quantity of merchandise that we have to sell,” says Baker. “We have 300,000 rugs available on any given day and, from a service standpoint, we want our customers to be happy, so we treat customers with respect. We want to make sure that they leave here with an excellent value that they can take to their market and be able to make a profit.”
