East End Bazaar Grand Opening Saturday

image of east end bazaarResidents of Charleston, WV will have a new fixture in their community beginning this Saturday, September 15, when the East End Bazaar opens for the season. The market was made possible by a true community effort, built over the course of 1,300 hours of labor put forth by teams of volunteers this summer. It has been in the planning stage since early last year, but will now be open on Saturdays through the end of October, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with plans to reopen for its next season in April. The grand opening of the East End Bazaar will include a ribbon cutting ceremony at 11 a.m. with a musical celebration to follow.

Expansion Already Being Considered

If the market is successful, Ric Cavender, director of East End Main Street, hopes to see its hours expand to include Sundays, as well. “We’re going to build our base and build vendor confidence,” he told the Charleston Gazette. Hence limiting the market to Saturdays, for now. Vendors are welcome, if not encouraged, to rotate scheduled weeks at the market, so as to keep the scene fresh for visitors. Market manager Ned Savage, who volunteers with East End Main Street through Americorps VISTA, expressed that the main focus during these opening weeks is to create a buzz around the event, because vendor response has been excellent.

The East End Bazaar is located at 1428 Washington Street East, Charleston, WV. Further information about this new market is available primarily through the bazaar’s Facebook page,
