Canton Flea Market Has Second Growth Spurt

Canton Flea Market, New YorkIn Canton, NY, the Canton Flea Market has grown yet again. When manager Frank E. Monnett first opened the flea market this January, it was meant to be an addition to Fashion Kraze, a discount fashion retail store that he also managed. At the time, he hoped that the addition of a flea market that shared an entrance with the clothing store would help drive foot traffic to both businesses. With 15 spaces for vendors running for $100 per month each, he assumed the spaces would fill quickly. Before he knew it, the Canton Flea Market swelled with 36 vendors at the opening and grew to hold 42 by the first weekend.

Monnett told the Watertown Daily Times that he presumes that gas prices have made the convenience of one stop shopping even more appealing to the rural town’s residents. Canton Flea Market’s popularity stimulates the tiny upstate town’s economy, and it recently expanded once again. Now, the space features 52 vendors and 64 booths, with 50 more vendors on a waiting list. In light of so much unprecedented success, Monnett has no plans of growing the flea market again for quite some time. He attributes the market’s success to its great location and plentiful parking space.

The Canton Flea Market is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. For more information about space on the waiting list, contact Monnett directly.
