Big Flea Scene In The Big Apple

New York City Flea MarketsIf you’re looking for fleas around the Big Apple, the warmer weather has brought them all out into the sunshine. This metropolitan mecca for antique hunters, artists, pickers and choosers comes bursting onto the scene every summer, and as Independence Day approaches, New York City’s seasonal markets are in full swing. Having earned a place in Travel + Leisure’s list of the top cities for shopping this summer, New York’s flea markets are sure to be a hot spot for treasure hunters even more than usual this season. Much like the city itself, the markets of each borough have their own unique personalities.

The Annex at Hell’s Kitchen and The Garage are at the heart of the art scene. Galleries abound, drawing crowds inclined to buy vintage art and furniture. This is prime territory for selling to gallery customers who may be looking for a deal on art, especially if a vendor’s merchandise is in line with current creative trends.

In Brooklyn, flea markets are as eclectic as the borough’s residents. Anything goes in Brooklyn, from vintage record players to the latest Hello Kitty toy. And where would Brooklyn be without the renowned Brooklyn Flea? Vendor prices range from $100 a day to $220 for a 10′ by 10′ space. Tents are available at an additional cost.  Vendors headed for Brooklyn should also consider the Aquaduck Flea Market and Park Slope Flea Market at P.S. 321, which are equally as active as the Brooklyn Flea.

Queens hosts diverse cultures and has the cuisine to prove it. A table of ethnic oddities will attract many at the Atlantic Flea Market, the Jamaica Center Market and the Unique Bazaar and Thrift.

During vacation months, expect these markets to hold more vendors than usual. The flea markets of New York City are officially heated up for summer.
