Joplin Flea Market Celebrates 36 Years

Joplin Flea MarketJoplin Flea Market in Joplin, MO, is celebrating its 36th anniversary in business this year. Laverne Miller opened the market in 1976 when she purchased the City Market and Market Square Center from the city of Joplin. When the flea market opened, it was the only business of its type in Joplin. Today, just as in the mid-1970s, vendors with nearly 200 booths sell a wide variety of items including antiques and collectibles, new and used merchandise, clothing and fresh produce. J&M Café sells breakfast, lunch and desserts.

In addition to the flea market, Miller owns several properties and businesses in Joplin, including a salon, a used car lot and a pawnshop. Previously, Miller owned a trucking company, the Nite Owl Grocery Store and the Copper Kettle Restaurant.
