AquaDuck Preps Expansion Efforts

The AquaDuck Flea Market, which opened on June 18th of last year, has been a success in the Brooklyn area, providing a new home for a large contingency of the vendors from the Aqueduct Flea Market, which closed early in 2011. Operating year-round on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Tuesdays from 8 to 6, the market currently has room for over 200 vendors, but will soon grow further.  “We are targeting March 1st for the full expansion to a complete New York City block, with over 100,000 square feet of vending space,” says Dominic Ammerman, who operates the flea market with his business partner, Big Steve Valenti. “There has been nothing to slow that effort down.”

Better Rates for Monthly Vendors

Ammerman adds that because the market runs all year, a lot of vendors from other markets that close in the winter come to AquaDuck on a temporary basis, with some interested in remaining long-term vendors. “With the larger market, all vendors are going to benefit from larger spaces, and discounted rates for monthly vendors,” he notes. “Daily rates will remain constant, but monthly vendors will receive more attractive pricing.”

AquaDuck has been incredibly motivated to get the word out about the market, advertising in several mediums including newspapers, radio, television, and through handing out flyers. In addition, the market has targeted large groups of unique visitors by focusing on getting bus trips from around the East Coast to visit the Brooklyn site. To Ammerman, the future looks bright for the new shopping destination. “We definitely created a new venue for vendors and shoppers and I think this is just the beginning.”

The AquaDuck Flea Market is located at 12637 Flatlands Avenue, on the corner of Flatlands and Fountain Avenue, in Brooklyn. Daily rentals are available for $80 for 10×25 spots and $60 for either 10×10 or10x15; however, a majority of the vendors rent on a monthly basis.
