Joplin Flea Market Celebrates 35 Years

TableThe Joplin Flea Market in Joplin, MO is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year. The pride and joy of owner Laverne Miller, who has run the block-sized market since day one, the market sells new and used merchandise, clothing, and collectibles.

According to a report in the Joplin Globe, Miller purchased the City Market and Market Square Center from the city of Joplin in 1976. At the time, most of the buildings were empty, and Miller has filled them with vendors of all types and sizes on weekends ever since. Currently, there are nearly 200 booths at the Joplin Flea Market.

Passion for the Flea Market

The flea market is only one of 35 properties Miller owns in Joplin, as she also owns a salon, used car lot, and pawn shop, among other businesses. But the flea market has always been her favorite, and still brings her happiness after all these years. “I love what I do,” Miller told the Globe. “And I enjoy seeing it grow.”
