Flea market set to open Labor Day at Calif. high school

Pajaro Valley High School

The Pajaro Valley High School in Watsonville, Calif., will host a new flea market starting Labor Day weekend.

The Santa Cruz County Flea Market in Watsonville, Calif., is moving from the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds to the Pajaro Valley High School in Watsonville, Calif. As FleaMarketZone reported last year, the market had faced opposition from local protestors who objected to the market’s noise. The swap meet had been held at the fairgrounds since February 2009.

Note that although one news report says the flea market is moving to the new location, another report says that the market at the fairgrounds may continue as well. FleaMarketZone has so far been unable to confirm the news, either way.

The new weekly market may open as soon as the upcoming Labor Day weekend. The new market will bring thousands of dollars of income to the high school’s sports teams. A local environmental group, the Watsonville Wetlands Watch, has raised some concerns.
