Pro wrestling organizer tags in as flea market’s new owner

Barnaby Jones has taken on the ownership of the Rummage Rumble Monarch Gardens Flea Market in Appleton, Wis., and he plans to rejuvenate it with lower rents, better marketing, and new events to draw shoppers. “I took it over this month, and we had our first market July 24. It is a monthly Sunday flea market,” he says.

Jones was involved with the swap meet at its beginning, and was invited to take it over when the former owner’s interest waned. “Last month he cancelled it because he didn’t feel like having it. He came to me and offered to let me take it over.”

He intends to keep to a tight monthly schedule, to boost advertising, and to cut space rental fees in half, from $30 per day to $15 per day. To simplify accounts, Jones is collecting booth fees on the morning of each market, and not in advance. The Rummage Rumble has room for at least 50 to 60 vendors, and 17 showed up for the July session.

One unique attraction: Jones runs the local pro wrestling scene, so the market offers live pro wrestling, “just like on TV.” He has a Halloween event and car show scheduled for the fall.
