Thriving new indoor flea market adds outdoor vending

An indoor flea market that opened last August has grown to 70 vendors and is now opening an outdoor flea market for the spring. The Carlisle Township Flea Market in Elyria, Ohio, run by market managers Laura and Craig Brabander, has had a soft opening of its new outdoor market, which has been a little slow because rainy weather has dampened the launch. “If the rain stops we’ll finally get some people out here,” says Laura Brabander.

Located in a former furniture store, the Carlisle Township Flea Market has lots of room to expand outdoors. “We have 35 acres, so we’re hoping it will get pretty huge,” says Brabander. “We can fit about 40 outdoor vendors now, but we have room for hundreds.”

Rental rates for swap meet spaces start at $14.75 per day indoors, which includes electricity, and $10 per day, outdoors, or $20 for the whole weekend. The market is open Friday through Sunday every week.

The market has been advertising locally and on Craigslist. It is active on Facebook and online. For more information, call (440) 323-FLEA or e-mail
