National Geographic is filming a new “Fleaman” TV show
KPI, a N.Y.-based TV production company, is working with National Geographic to produce a flea-market-themed reality show, according to a number of online casting call postings around the Internet. According to the Houston Film Commission, the show will feature a “true flea market veteran” who will help people on the show evaluate and sell items at flea markets and swap meets. The current name of the show is “Fleaman,” and filming will take place within one hour of downtown Houston, over the course of three or four days, some time in late January or early February, at a local flea market. Those who participate will receive a copy of the show on DVD, along with meals, lodging, and transportation. The casting producer for the show is Cara Weissman.
The identity of the flea market veteran, presumably the “Fleaman” himself, has so far been kept a secret by show producers. The show joins the growing trend of flea market and swap meet oriented reality shows such as Storage Wars and Auction Hunters.
Sources at Traders Village Houston, one of the largest and best-known of the many Houston flea markets, confirmed to FleaMarketZone that Weissman had approached the market hoping to film the show there. Unfortunately, Traders Village is in the middle of opening a big new market in San Antonio, which made it impossible for the market to accommodate a film crew with the specific needs KPI had. However, Traders Village is open to participation in the future.
Contacted by FleaMarketZone.com, Weissman confirmed that filming has begun, and that KPI is actively looking both for participants and Texas-based flea markets at which to shoot. “If any flea markets want to be considered. Let us know,” she says. “We’re looking for flea markets in Texas.” For information on how to be on the show, or how to get your market on the show, Weissman encourages interested people to contact her directly at email@example.com.
