The El Mercado Indoor Swap Meet in Mesa, Ariz., is planning a phase two expansion that will add 52 spaces to the market space that just opened Aug. 1 with 75 spaces. “We hope to open that no later than Nov. 1,” says Jose Solis, director of business development. The expansion will include a kids’ park, a video arcade, and, Solis hopes, service provider vendors that will let the market expand from its current five days a week to six or seven.
The market is currently at 90-plus percent capacity with 72 vendors who sell a wide range of merchandise. “We have jewelry, clothing, fashion, photography, a beauty salon, a deli, and a cafe,” says Solis.
The cost to rent a space is the same for both parts of the market: $350 for 110 square feet on a monthly basis. The indoor flea market is currently open Wednesday through Sunday, 10 am to 8 pm, year round. Some current vendors are planning to open a second booth in the new space.
Solis says that he is satisfied with the market’s growth. “The overall structure of the economy is hurting everyone, but we are better than expected,” he explains. For more information, contact Jose Solis at (480) 615-4209.
