Craft-oriented flea market sells out for October launch in Denver

Horseshoe Craft & Flea MarketThe Horseshoe Craft & Flea Market has sold out all its vendor spaces, according to Doug Yetman, operations manager at the market. “We are at or over capacity,” he says, with more than 120 vendors committed to attend. The grand opening will feature kids’ activities, including jewelry making and chalk drawing on the parking lot.

The Oct. 2 launch will also be the lone session in 2010, but the organizers are planning for a full slate in 2011. “Next year we hope this will be a monthly summer and early fall market, as our goal,” says Yetman.

With a definite art and antique theme, the market has only three food vendors and about 20 vintage jewelry vendors. The rest of the sellers are equally divided among crafters and artists, says Yetman. The option may be open next year to add local produce booths.

The Horseshoe Craft & Flea — named for its Western location in Denver and for the lucky finds shoppers will discover there — is situated in the parking lot of a funeral home, across from a local park. A 10-foot-by-10-foot booth costs $65, with some discounts for students and members of a local artists organization.

Doug Yetman had high praise for his wife, market director Amy Yetman, as the driving force behind the market. “My wife is the creative mind behind this. She has done a fantastic job.” He credited the vendor turnout to her enthusiasm and e-marketing savvy. “One of the things my wife has specifically tried to do is to appeal to people who might be new to events like this,” says Yetman. “She’s wanted to make it approachable and within their grasp.” The flea market is actively represented on Facebook, Blogger, and Twitter. There has also been some local press and attention from bloggers.
