Although her market opened less than a month ago, Penny Kennedy’s new indoor flea market in Marion, Miss., is already filled up at 15 vendors, and she has a list of sellers who are waiting to get in.
A former shop owner and flea market vendor, Kennedy’s market — eponymously named “Penny’s Lil Flea Market” — will host a charity grand opening in early October, she says. “What I really want to do is make it more of a fund raiser and give the money to Hope Village for Children.” A Web site is also in the works.
Explaining her inspiration for the market, Kennedy says, “I have a passion for junk. I have always enjoyed this. I had a little shop and just really enjoyed it. I sold that shop when I moved here. I moved into a flea market, really liked it, and I just decided that I wanted to branch out on my own again.”
Kennedy herself also sells at the market. Her merchandise? “A little bit of everything,” she says. Booth spaces are $110 per month, and the air-conditioned indoor market is open seven days a week.
